Therapy for LGBTQ – Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Trans, Questioning and Queer life issues

Therapy for LGBTQ – Gay, Lesbian, Bisexual, Trans, Questioning and Queer life issues

David Moulton Toronto Psychotherapist | Picture of Grasses

While there is no special gay therapy, lesbian therapy or sexuality therapy, gay and lesbian people may have concerns unique to their experience that I can help them navigate such as coming out or feeling badly about themselves, bisexual people may have these concerns while also dealing with challenges such as oppression from within the LGBTQ community, and questioning or queer people may share all of these concerns while trying to find what works for them when nothing seems to fit.

I can provide support for finding the path that fits best for you, and together we can search for solutions that make sense to you based on your life and your agenda.

A footnote about gay or trans “conversion” (reparative) therapy

It is important to remember that this is not reparative (or “conversion”) therapy, where a therapist’s goal is to make you straight or cisgender – this kind of therapy is considered harmful and unethical and I do not practice it and advocate against it.

Therapy for people who are of trans, genderqueer or nonbinary experience

While there is no special trans therapy or gender therapy, people who are of trans, genderqueer or nonbinary experience and/or have questions or concerns about their gender have unique needs and goals that require specific knowledge, experience, sensitivity and practicality. I have extensive training and experience to aid trans, genderqueer and nonbinary people on their journeys, and I can help you navigate your concerns while we explore what gender means to you and how you interact with others and your world. Together we can find ways to address ramifications of exploring inside and outside of conventional gender roles, while celebrating your hopes and your vision of yourself! If you are in transition or are considering it, I can also connect you with additional resources to aid you in your transition, as I am fully networked with other trans care providers.

I will help you explore your concerns in a confidential, safe and affirming environment where we take into account all aspects of your life, including friendships, family, culture and spirituality.
